Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 July 2026

1. Overview

VigilVest (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use vigilvest.com, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Email address and name when you create an account.
  • Password (stored as a secure hash via AWS Cognito; we never see your plain-text password).
  • Messages you send through our contact form.

Information collected automatically:

  • Tickers you search and add to your watchlist.
  • Standard server logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited.
  • Local storage values (e.g. recently viewed tickers, theme preference) stored in your browser — these never leave your device.

Information we do not collect:

  • Payment or financial account information (we do not currently charge for the Service).
  • Precise location data.
  • Social media profile data.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and watchlist.
  • To send watchlist alert emails when companies you follow file earnings or regulatory documents.
  • To respond to your support and contact enquiries.
  • To monitor and improve the reliability and performance of the Service.
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate VigilVest:

  • AWS Cognito — user authentication and password management.
  • Amazon SES — transactional email delivery for watchlist alerts.
  • Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) — financial data provider. Your search queries are sent to FMP to retrieve stock data.
  • SEC EDGAR — public regulatory filings. Queries are made on your behalf to retrieve filing data.
  • Anthropic Claude API — used to generate plain English summaries of financial reports. Content sent to the API does not include your personal information.
  • AWS Lightsail — server hosting.

Each of these providers has their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies if you have concerns.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance reasons.

Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

VigilVest does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We use browser local storage to remember your theme preference (light/dark), recently viewed tickers, and anonymous usage counts. This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, hashed password storage via AWS Cognito, and restricted server access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you discover a security vulnerability, please email us at contact@vigilvest.com before disclosing it publicly.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your account and associated personal data.
  • Object to certain processing of your data.
  • Export your watchlist data.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@vigilvest.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. For significant changes, we will notify registered users by email. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
